Locus-one changes again.

Drupal.orgA while back I changed Locus-one from static web pages to a Content Management System (CMS). At first this was an experiment in using a CMS and I found if very useful for concentrating on the items I wanted to make available on my site. I started out by using Joomla, which is a good CMS but I found Drupal met my needs a little better than Joomla.

joI started reviewing CMS's for the Shire of Sangre del Sol the chapter of the SCA that I was the newsletter manager and the web manager. After looking them over I thought that the use of a CMS would be perfect for a not-for-profit group that has rotating officers and multiple people looking to get multiple items up to a web site. This all looked very good and wonderful but I eventually moved out of the area and it was left up to another to manage the web site. I eventually did use s CMS for an SCA group. I moved to the West coast US and setup the my local SCA group, Vinhold.org, website using Drupal. This has worked out very well and I have been very pleased with the results.

I have actually started using CMS scripts professionally. A friend wanted me to create a web site so I proposed we setup a CMS for his real estate business. I reviewed a lot of real estate scripts and came up with one that fit his needs. So I modified it and created a site that he can edit himself with only my minimal involvement on occasion. He is happy with it, it didn't cost a lot for startup and spends a small amount per month for the hosting and can post as many home as he likes.

For starters I will use canned templates and eventually create my own later. That will be part of the learning experience. Teach myself more scripting, more CSS and template creation.
